What determines the choice of aluminum profile for different tasks

Overview with comments from Realit experts

The choice of aluminum profile is an important stage in the design of modern architectural and construction projects. Not only the appearance of the building, but also its energy efficiency, durability and performance depend on the right decision. At Realit, we face different challenges on a daily basis – from creating translucent facades to designing window and door systems. We share our expert view on the key factors in choosing an aluminum profile.

When is thermal break necessary?

If the building being designed is used in climatic conditions with temperature fluctuations, a thermal break is essential. This solution minimizes heat loss and prevents condensation.

When thermal break is needed:

  • in all facade and window systems of residential buildings;
  • in glazing of public buildings with high traffic;
  • in administrative and office buildings with high energy efficiency requirements.

In Realit systems we use modern thermal breaks made of polyamide with the addition of glass fiber. Our thermal breaks have low thermal conductivity and are resistant to deformation.

Anodizing or powder coating?

Coating of aluminum profile serves not only for aesthetics, but also for protection from aggressive external environment. The choice depends on project requirements and operating conditions:

  • Anodizing provides for high corrosion resistance and a uniform metallic shine. This type of surface cover is particularly relevant for facades in maritime climates and industrial areas.
  • Powder coating is a more flexible solution in terms of color range (the entire RAL palette), suitable for residential buildings, allowing to emphasize the architectural style.

Realit offers both options, as well as combinatorial solutions with customized finishes on request.

What types of profiles are most common for facades?

For facade constructions, the key profile parameters are:

  • high strength and load-bearing capacity;
  • the possibility of integrating opening casements and sun protection elements;
  • visual lightness and narrow glazing lines.

Depending on the architectural task, Realit specialists recommend:

  • mullion and transom systems – for facades of large shopping and business centers;
  • elemental systems – for high-rise glazing projects where installation without scaffolding is important;
  • structural and semi-structural glazing – for facades with minimalist design.

Choosing an aluminum profile is a complex task. Realit’s team helps you select the optimal system for each project – taking into account all technical, operational and design requirements.
